Laney’s First Haircut – The Poorly Shot Movie

Daddy vs. Laney’s First Haircut

Well, we knew this day was coming from the first time we laid eyes on Laney and her full head of hair.  With her first birthday just around the corner and her hair so long she was tripping over it while trying to walk, it was time to take Laney for her first haircut.

This was an extremely traumatic event for all involved.  Sam was a nervous wreck from the moment I suggested it and it didn’t get any better until we were done.  Laney was great until she felt her power waning with each little snip of the scissors.  I was looking forward to seeing my daughter’s face without the aid of hair doodads and doohickies but quickly retreated to the corner of “Pigtails & Crewcuts” assuming the fetal position the more we cut.

Afterwards, Sam seemed happy with the results even though she planed to do some touch up work sometime soon and agreed it wasn’t the best use of $19.  Laney was happy to be out of the chair/police car and was drunk on animal crackers and non-stop Nemo.  She recovered next store at the high-priced, foo foo toy shop and is doing nicely, thank you for asking.

I on the other hand still have not recovered.  Sam has been doing her best to console me and assured me it’ll be ok, but I still haven’t been able to get those images of Laney’s hair falling to the ground out of my head.  Luckily I have photos and videos to remind me if I ever do.   Ironically, I stopped taking pictures at some point during “the incident” and didn’t get an “after” picture.  I’ll be sure to post those later if I ever get around to it.

Laney Begins Toddling

Laney is officially toddling now. She toddles all over the house. You’ve never seen so much toddling in one place before. It’s only a matter of time before she’s walking. God help us all.

Laney vs. The Valentine’s Day Card

Laney celebrated her first Valentine’s Day this weekend. She received a number of great cards from friends and family, but one in particular got her moving. Grandpa Al’s singing card really seemed to hit a chord with Laney.

Laney Loves Out Loud

Laney got dressed up for her first Valentine’s Day today.  Obviously she was REEEEAAALLLLY excited about it.

Actually, this is a picture of her screaming “FREEDOM!!!!” before taking off across the floor in a sprint crawl.

The more I think about it, the more she reminds me of someone…

Laney Remembers Thanxgiving 2008

I realized I didn’t post any photos from Thanxgiving 2008.  I was recently printing some photos out and came across some pictures we really loved.  I’ll post a few of our favorites here and in the near future.

If you are interested in seeing all three Thanxgiving 2008 galleries, check out the links on the right side of the blog.

Baby Business – 9 Months Bonus Edition

Ok… I’ve been slacking off.  Sam noticed that I never published the latest Baby Business after Laney’s 9-month check up.  I know people have been wagering on Laney’s head circumference, so I apologize if this kept you from collecting on the over/under.Laney's Penguin Towel

Laney went to the doctor on January 5th.   She was 21 lbs. 2 oz. which puts her in the 75-90th percentile.  She was 29 1/2 inches tall (95th percentile) and her head was 18 1/2 inches around which stll places her in the 97th percentile!  Yeah!!!  Eat that small-headed babies!!!!

She’s been growing up right in front of our eyes.  Since her doctor’s visit, she’s learned to crawl, mastered crawling, learned to pull up, learned to fall down, mastered falling down, started cruising, started grabbing everything, mastered shoving everything in her mouth and much more.  We are in emergency mode here trying to get the house baby proofed.  She’s already pulled up onto the first stair, so we have run out of time.

It’s hard to believe that she’s 10 1/2 months old already and her birthday is right around the corner.  For those who are interested, we are having a get together at the house the weekend after her birthday to celebrate (Saturday, March 21).  Nana, Grumpa and Grandpa will be there as well as some special guests.  (I’m talking to Don Mattingly tomorrow.)   If you are interested in coming, you are more than welcome.  But bring clothes that are easily cleaned because Laney will have her very own cake to tear into.  Think Gallager or Shamu’s Spash Zone and you’ll get the picture.

One last point of business… I know I still haven’t posted photos from our XMas trip to South Florida.  I’ll get those up ASAP.  Until then, enjoy this picture of Laney at Grampa Al’s house.  Sam put pigtails in her hair and thinks she looks like a Laney Who from a Dr. Suess book…

Laney Goes Bananas

Laney has been enjoying all kinds of new foods now that she’s old enough.  She’s been eating pasta, fruits and veggies while exploring new and interesting ways of smearing them all over the place.

Although she’s enjoyed pieces of cut up bananas before, this morning she decided to cut out the middle monkey and grabbed Mom’s lunchtime fruit.  To our surprise she started peeling it.  After a little help she took a huge bite out of it and didn’t stop until half of it was gone!
